The Young Alberta Book Society has served Alberta for more than 25 years as a nonprofit organization devoted to promoting literacy and a love of reading among young people in Alberta. The Society coordinates programs to connect Albertan students with authors, illustrators and storytellers. YABS’ flagship program is Taleblazers, a month-long literary festival for kids.
Key Responsibilities
¢ Carry out assigned policies and regulations under the authority of the Board of Directors
¢Implement strategic planning, analysis, management and administration processes
¢Provide strong leadership by facilitating positive relationships with the board, community groups and media
¢Provide human resource management, including developing interpersonal relations, staff training and motivation
¢Manage day-to-day finances, budgeting, and fundraising efforts, including submission of grant applications
¢Manage, coordinate, and monitor the successful implementation of YABS programs
Qualifications
¢Post-secondary education in business, communications, marketing and/or arts (equivalent experience will be considered)
¢Experience in managing non-profit arts or cultural programs is desirable
¢Education in arts and cultural management would be an asset
¢Experience creating and managing a budget
¢Strong planning skills
¢Superior English skills, both written and oral
¢Accurate and detail-oriented with a high level of initiative
¢Excellent team, interpersonal and communication skills
¢Demonstrated computer literacy in MS Office, Quickbooks, Adobe, desktop publishing and basic website programs
¢Familiarity with Alberta literary artists is an asset
Work Environment
¢35-hour week, flextime possible
¢Occasional evening or weekend work may be required
¢Starting salary $38,500/yr with five-week vacation, pro-rated in first year based on actual start date
